How the site is built for accessibility

Interior Design Germany is built as plain semantic HTML with one heading hierarchy per page, a skip link to the main content, labelled navigation regions, text alternatives on every image and a colour scheme of black text on a white background that exceeds the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio required by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. The site uses no scripts for navigation or content, so every page works with JavaScript disabled and with a keyboard alone.

Text size, layout and tables

Text on Interior Design Germany is set in the reader's system font and scales with the browser's zoom and text-size settings without loss of content, and the layout is designed mobile-first so that a phone with a 390 pixel wide screen shows every page in a single column without horizontal scrolling. Data tables use header cells and keep at most four columns, so that the columns remain readable at phone width and screen readers can announce the column heading for each value.

Known limitations and feedback

Interior Design Germany publishes the German legal and technical terms in parentheses after the English term, and screen readers set to English pronounce those German words with English rules; the editorial team accepts this limitation because the German terms are what readers need to search their own documents for. A reader who finds a page element that cannot be reached by keyboard, an image without a useful text alternative or a table that overflows a small screen can write to info@interior-design.com.de, and the editorial team answers within 5 working days.
